Shiv Sena minister Eknath Shinde informed reporters there were 40 MLAs present with him who would "carry forward Balasaheb Thackeray's Hindutva" shortly after arriving in Guwahati, Assam with other dissident MLAs from Maharashtra. Shiv Sena's 12 MLAs have since relocated to the St. Regis in Lower Parel.
Uddhav Thackeray, the chief minister of Maharashtra, has convened a cabinet meeting for Wednesday at 1 p.m. amid a worsening political crisis within the MVA administration. Eknath Shinde met with Milind Narvekar, the chief minister's personal assistant, and MLC Ravindra Fatak earlier on Tuesday evening in an effort to calm him down and persuade him to come back. Sanjay Raut, the head of the Shiv Sena, indicated that CM Uddhav will be informed of the discussion's conclusion. Sanjay Kute, a member of the BJP, met with Shinde at the Surat hotel where the latter is staying, according to reports. Ajay Chaudhary, an MLA, has been appointed as Shinde's replacement as the party's group leader.
To protest Shinde and the other rebels, thousands of Shiv Sena members held protests on Tuesday in and around Mumbai. Many party members who were upset by Shinde's action referred to it as a BJP-instigated insurrection and vented their resentment through demonstrations. The majority of the MLAs who came to the meeting at the Chief Minister's official house, Varsha Bungalow, declined to comment on the subject and insisted that only the party chairman and top leaders would respond.
